Stepping Stones Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to serving youth in crisis throughout North Texas by providing access to emergency housing, food, clothing and medical care as well as offering an array of programs and services aimed to empower and instill the necessary tools for making positive life choices
Every year, more than 2 million kids in America will face a period of homelessness, and 57% of homeless kids spend at least one day every month without food. The facts about homelessness are staggering, and you might think that it isn’t happening here. It is!
Texas school districts are trying to educate more than 111,000 homeless children/youth each year. More than 16,000 of these homeless Texas youth are “unaccompanied” by an adult. As schools work to improve their identification efforts, the number of homeless students they identify has increased.
There are many children in OUR community, each day, which do not know where they will get their next meal or where they will sleep that evening. This is where Stepping Stones Foundation “steps in.”
Stepping Stones Foundation works directly with intervention specialists in the surrounding schools who identify the most at-risk students who are in the “ most desperate” of situations, such as homeless or “ couch jumpers“ as well as those that do not have daily food, proper clothing, weather appropriate shoes, medical care, etc. As soon as Stepping Stones becomes involved, we begin to triage the situation and determine their most critical needs. Once the urgent needs are met, we are then able to jointly design a strategy to successfully transition to an independent, healthy lifestyle and significantly reduce their potential for recidivating back into a state of homelessness.
Our many programs serve to support our mission and begin to allow each child to take steps toward a brighter future. Our children are supported through volunteers, monetary donations, service donations and funds generated through Stepping Stones Foundation Resale Boutique. In addition, we partner with the local community, businesses and other organizations to achieve our goals toward these children’s bright futures.
